World Cup 2026: List of teams that have been eliminated from the tournament
The group stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup has produced plenty of excitement, with several nations already securing places in the knockout rounds while others have seen their campaigns come to an end.
Teams eliminated
Several countries were unable to progress beyond the opening round of the tournament.
Haiti bowed out after consecutive defeats to Scotland and Brazil.
Tunisia suffered heavy losses to Sweden and Japan, ending their campaign after only two matches.
Türkiye were eliminated following defeats against Australia and Paraguay despite reaching the finals through the UEFA play-offs.
Jordan exited early after losing both of their opening Group J fixtures against Austria and Algeria.
Panama finished bottom of Group L after defeats to Ghana and Croatia.

Qatar ended fourth in Group B, recording only one draw while losing to Canada and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Czechia collected just one point in Group A after defeats to Korea Republic and Mexico.
Tournament debutants Curaçao finished bottom of Group E despite earning a memorable draw against Ecuador.
Iraq lost all three Group I matches against France, Norway and Senegal to exit without a point.
Bielsa takes blame in Uruguay’s elimination
Uruguay suffered one of the tournament’s biggest disappointments, finishing with only two draws before losing to Spain.
Head coach Marcelo Bielsa has admitted he must shoulder the blame after Uruguay’s disappointing FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign came to an end, acknowledging that he failed to bring the best out of a talented squad.
Uruguay, winners of the tournament on two previous occasions, crashed out of the competition following a narrow 1-0 loss to Spain on Saturday, June 27, 2026. The defeat left them third in Group H with just two points from their three group-stage matches.

Reflecting on the team’s elimination, Bielsa conceded that he had not succeeded in turning the quality within his squad into effective collective performances.
“I wasn’t able to get the best out of the quality Uruguay has in its players,” Bielsa told reporters. “I couldn’t get the level of the individual players to come together as a team that reflected their quality.” He said on Saturday, June 27, 2026.
Elsewhere, Saudi Arabia also failed to progress, ending bottom of Group H after collecting just two points.
New Zealand, the only representative from Oceania, finished last in Group G and were eliminated after the group stage.
