Shabana interim coach reacts to club’s progression to FKF Cup last 8

Shabana FC interim coach Mark Ongwae has expressed his elation with his charges after their narrow win over Kuta Collection to storm the last eight of the 2026 FKF Cup.
Speaking on Saturday, April 11, 2026, the former Gor Mahia defender admitted to approaching the clash on caution from the trend of lower league sides serving up upsets against top-tier opposition.

He, however, expressed his satisfaction with the team for keeping their quest for a domestic cup this season alive.
“We expected a tough match; these teams from lower tiers have been causing upsets, and we came fully aware of that.
Against the team featuring several unattached players, the Gusii-based side found proceedings tough against a determined host’s astute defensive line.
Progress to next stages
The decisive moment came from Brian Michira’s strike following a brilliant delivery from Brian Kiprono.
“Our strategy was to try and pin them in their own half. We got the goal in the first half, and the most important task was to progress. We got the job done,” he explained.
The victory got the Glamour Boys over the line where they now join a host of KPL sides who all emerged victorious in their other clashes staged across the country.
Police FC were among the top-tier clubs who advanced to the last eight after ending giant-killers BB Bread FC fairy tale run in the tournament.
Nicholas Muyoti edged the minnows 1-0 to end the regional outfit’s impressive runs that included eliminating both AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia in the early stages.
Eldoret-based Mfalme FC served the day’s shocker by bundling FKF Premier League side Murang’a Seal out of the FKF Cup.
Julien Mette’s Tusker lads also claimed a 1-0 win in their encounter on Friday to advance.
Seal crash out
Tusker’s quarters progression came after a narrow 1–0 win over Kariobangi Sharks at Kasarani Stadium.
Meanwhile, FKF Division One outfit Mfalme FC thrash Murang’a Seals 5-1 in a one-sided encounter at the Eldoret Showgrounds on Saturday, April 11, 2026.
The games will continue on Sunday with Kakamega Homeboyz facing Ulinzi Stars in an all-FKF Premier League encounter.
