Shabana earn crucial victory to silence Kakamega Homeboyz

Shabana FC extended their fine home run with a 1-0 win over Kakamega Homeboyz in a Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League clash staged on Saturday, April 18, 2026.

Assiss Mambote’s expertly taken goal at the half-hour mark proved the difference as Tore Bobe claimed successive wins for the first time under coach Marc Ongwae.

The club approached the tie on the back of a morale-boosting victory over Kuta Collection to storm into the FKF Cup last eight and just managed to get the job done on their return to league action.

The clash at Gusii kicked off with the hosts debuting their new bus, donated on Sunday, April 12, 2026, by President William Ruto.

Brian Bett had an early chance to put the host in front but missed from close range.

Michira’s assist

The decisive moment came in the 30th minute as Brian Michira took the ball in his stride before setting up Mambote with a lovely dinked pass. The Congolese import leveraged his height to beat a Homeboyz defender with a lobbed header before unleashing an unstoppable shot past custodian Ibrahim Wanzala for the opener.

The tie was almost over after the hour mark, but Byron Otieno’s shot at goal narrowly missed the target, putting the home team 2-0 to the good.

A feisty final half saw James Mazembe stretched off with a suspected knock and was stretched off before Stephen Otieno saved the hosts from conceding late on from the visitors’ foray at goal.

Having snapped a run of three losses on the trot that saw them drop off the league title race, with a win over Murang’a Seal, the Glamour Boys extended the win to restore their home form with a solitary-goal win.

The win now sees the team close the gap between them and Homeboyz, as both teams now sit on 46 points, with Homeboyz the superiorly ranked courtesy of a better goal difference.

The win comes as a massive boost for the home team, who have endured a torrid spell in recent league outings.

A spate of inconsistent results since the dismissal of coach Peter Okidi saw them slump to a 3-0 defeat to Nairobi United on Sunday, April 5, 2026.

The clash came after the team had breathed life to their league push by beating Muranga’ Seal a week earlier, coming after a tough period of league outcomes

Defeats against the title-chasing duo of AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia, along with a loss to lowly ranked Sharks, also compounded their season’s struggles. leaving them down to fifth on the pile.
