Shabana’s free fall continues after defeat to Nairobi United

Shabana FC’s inconsistent streak since the dismissal of coach Peter Okidi in the local league has continued after a 3-0 defeat to Nairobi United this Sunday, April 5, 2026.

The encounter at Moi Kasarani saw the club’s former trialist, Duncan Omalla, haunting the team that turned him away, with a deserved lead in the first half.

Fourth loss

Michael Karamor added the second for the hosts before Mustapha Kiiza hit the final nail in Shabana’s coffin with a well-taken strike.

The result marked a new low for Shabana, who sustained a fourth loss in their five games.

Marc Ongwae, who succeeded Okidi, has only won a single game, the team’s last encounter against Murang’a Seal, since taking the reins of the fort.

In the free fall period, the club has slumped to defeat against the title-chasing duo of AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia, while a loss to lowly ranked Sharks also compounded their season’s struggles.

Tore Bobe currently trails fourth-place Kakamega Homeboyz by two points and Police FC at fourth by goal difference, having played a game more than the pair.

The club’s title ambitions also took a major dip, with the latest defeat leaving them 14 points off Gor Mahia at the top with fewer than eight games to play.

Meanwhile, AFC Leopards, who, alongside Shabana, once ranked as the championship challengers, sustained their chase and pursuit of leaders Gor Mahia with another decisive 2-0 win over Muranga’ Seal on Sunday.

Fred Amabani’s team sustained their winning run just after Gor Mahia slipped in the title race following a goalless draw against Kariobangi Sharks on Saturday, April 5, clash at Kasarani Stadium.

Two-horse race

Ronald Sichenje and Hassan Beja supplied the goals needed to complete the mission and throw a spanner in the works of a highly contested Premier League, which is now locked in a fierce two-horse race.

After Week 27 fixtures, Charles Akonnor’s lads lead the pack with 57 points, with Leopards hot on their heels in second with 52 points. Homeboyz comes in at third with 45 points, with reigning champions Police placed at fourth, two points below Patrick Odhiambo’s team.
