Mo Salah on his fitness, desire to succeed and love for Liverpool fans
By Joel Masibo, May 2, 2026As he edges closer to bringing an end to his chapter at Anfiled, Mohamed Salah has expressed his confidence of being back in the Liverpool shirt before the end of the season.
The forward sustained a minor muscle injury during the win over Crystal Palace at Anfield last weekend and had to be substituted in the second half.
He will not be available for this Sunday’s Premier League clash at Manchester United as a result, but it was announced earlier this week that Salah is due to be back on the pitch ahead of his departure from the Reds when 2025-26 concludes.

Salah speaks to Gerrard
Speaking to Steven Gerrard for an interview with TNT Sports on Friday, May 1, 2026, Salah said of the possibility of featuring on the final day against Brentford: “Yeah, for sure.
“The injury is fine. Definitely. I probably will be [back] before that, probably,” he said.
Salah’s farewell later this month will bring the curtain down on a sensational, nine-year Liverpool career.
The Egyptian has scored 257 goals – the third-most in club history – alongside 119 assists, lifting two Premier League titles and the European Cup among nine trophies.
“I would say the desire, I really want to succeed. I really want to be remembered in this club. After the first year, I would say I want people to remember me as if I’m one of the best. And somehow it got into my head, I want people to remember me more than you [Gerrard], more than Kenny [Dalglish]. I’m not trying to be rude! They will not. But it doesn’t matter,” he added.
“For me, something drove me crazy and drove me to work hard, to be the first one in, to go to the gym, to do everything right, because I want people always to praise me through my work. It’s just the desire, I would say,” he added.

Relationship with club
Salah also described the depth of the relationship he has built up with Liverpool supporters since his arrival in 2017.
He said: “Incredible. I never imagined I would be close to somebody like this. I feel so emotional when I speak about them or about the city. The connection between us is incredible. If you give it all on the field, they will love you anyway. They know that I gave it all, I’ve been professional all my career and tried to encourage the guys: Leave it all on the field and the fans will appreciate it.” He said.
Salah is expected to miss the match against Manchester United on Sunday, May 3, 2026.
