Carabao Cup: Manchester United and Arsenal learn rivals as 6 all-Premier League ties lined up
By Joel Masibo, August 27, 2026The draw for the Carabao Cup third round has been made, pairing together sides from across the Premier League and EFL as the competition heads towards the business end of the season. Liverpool will host Tottenham Hotspur in the standout tie.
Roberto De Zerbi was delighted with the reaction of the team to the weekend loss at Brentford as Spurs toppled Charlton 5-1 in the Carabao Cup second round on Wednesday evening, August 26, 2026.
Speaking to SPURSPLAY, Roberto reflected, “It was good as a reaction because in sport, in football, you can lose one game but the day after, you have to fight. You have to show your character, your mentality. I asked that to the players and I think we played well.
“We scored five goals, I’m sorry for the goal we conceded because to change mentality we have to be angry if we concede a goal like this at the end of the game.
“It’s very good news because Sávio played 20 minutes. Pedro Porro and Micky van der Ven were back on the pitch, Rodrigo (Bentancur) played a great game like Mateus Fernandes, Mikey Moore and other great performances.
“I think we have to keep the last two games in the right way. The first game has been important to understand where we made mistakes. In this game, we can keep in mind what is very important to play with me – the order on the pitch, the many passes and without taking any risk. In the last third, I think we have to try to find the best combinations, the best way to attack the space.” He said.
Elsewhere, Arsenal will make the trip to Ipswich Town and Bradford City travel to Leyton Orient following their penalty shootout win over Burnley.
Crystal Palace will welcome Middlesbrough to Selhurst Park, while Manchester United host Brighton and Hove Albion at Old Trafford. Manchester City have been drawn at home to Norwich City, and there will be an all-EFL clash as Sunderland host Hull City.
Arsenal face a trip to Portman Road to take on Ipswich Town, while Coventry City welcome Aston Villa to the CBS Arena. Bournemouth are at home to Lincoln City, and Liverpool’s tie with Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield looks set to be one of the ties of the round.
The winner of Chelsea’s clash with Luton Town will host Leeds United, while Millwall host Newcastle United at The Den following the Magpies’ dramatic second-round win over West Brom. Fleetwood Town take on Sheffield United, and Everton, fresh from their comfortable win over Preston North End, will host Wolverhampton Wanderers at Goodison Park.
Bradford City’s reward for their penalty shootout victory over Burnley is an away tie at Leyton Orient, while Reading face Brentford and Peterborough United take on Barnsley. West Ham United complete the draw with a home tie against the winner of Fulham’s meeting with AFC Wimbledon.
Third-round ties are scheduled to be played in the coming weeks, with EFL clubs continuing to provide a stern test for their Premier League counterparts as the race for Wembley continues.
