‘Let’s keep up the chase’ – Ambani rallies AFC Leopards as title becomes two-horse affair
AFC Leopards coach Fred Ambani has implored his charges not to relent in their pursuit of Gor Mahia and the ultimate goal of claiming the elusive league title.
Speaking on Sunday, April 5, 2026, Ambani emphasised the importance of the win against a team he noted ranks among the opponents with the best footballing style in the division.
Keep pushing
“My message to my team is let us keep pushing,” he stated. “It is a great win for us, winning against a team of Seal’s caliber,” he said.
Ambani also addressed the tactical alterations made throughout the tie, lauding both his starters and substitutes for executing the strategies that led to Murang’a Seal’s downfall.
“We looked at areas where we could harm them. The players who started the match did an impressive job, and those who came in also showed why they deserve to be at AFC Leopards,” he added. “Keeping clean sheets is integral to winning a title, and we had to focus on our defensive record,” he added.

Ambani also reserved praise for his former international teammate Osborne Monday, lauding his charges for helping bring the kind of football he believes should be witnessed in top-tier competition.
“Murang’a is a good team, full of composure, and winning against them is a plus. I must congratulate them for the great football they are playing. Kudos to them. We want more games like these.”
Title prospects and Mulama’s praise
His remarks come after Ingwe’s fourth win in a row has elicited talks of the club reclaiming the elusive title, which they last won in 1998.
The run has caught the attention of former international Titus Mulama, who was quick to point out a new spirit of togetherness in the Leopards’ backroom.
In a congratulatory statement on his Facebook page on Sunday, April 5, 2026, after Ingwe silenced Murang’a Seal 2-0 for their fourth consecutive league win, Mulama stated that the run could be attributed to a new spirit of togetherness in the team under the stewardship of coach Fred Ambani.

“Fred Ambani, ni kama dressing room iko vizuri. Congratulations. Sustained pressure!” Mulama’s statement read.
The gaffer has not only endured a tough spell but also managed to achieve a swift turnaround that validates his leadership and management acumen as well as restoring a sense of pride to the Den.
Two-horse race
Currently, Ingwe is fiercely competing with the leaders, Gor Mahia, with whom they are locked in a two-horse race.
After defeating Seal, the former KPL champions are now just two points behind Gor Mahia, despite the latter having a game in hand.
Ambani’s team rose to the occasion to continue their winning run just after Gor Mahia slipped in the title race following a goalless draw against Kariobangi Sharks on Saturday, April 1, at Kasarani Stadium.
