Harambee Stars legend hints at AFC Leopards’ backroom unity as club’s roaring feat extends

Former Kenyan international and Mathare United legend Titus Mulama has hinted that the cruising league form of title-hopeful AFC Leopards could be down to the unity within the team.

In a congratulatory statement on his Facebook page on Sunday, April 5, 2026, after Ingwe silenced Murang’a Seal 2-0 for their fourth consecutive league win, Mulama stated that the run could be attributed to a new spirit of togetherness in the team under the stewardship of coach Fred Ambani.

“Fred Ambani, ni kama dressing room iko vizuri. Congratulations. Sustained pressure!” Mulama’s statement read.

Ironically, Ambani’s tenure has not been an entirely rosy affair.

The tactician recently came under fire a month ago, becoming the subject of pointed criticism after Ingwe dropped points against KCB in a 1-0 loss and suffered a 4-1 thrashing at the hands of Mulama’s favourite team, Mathare United.

The defeats back in March 2026 not only derailed Ingwe’s title prospects but also led many to cast doubt on the coach’s capacity to steer the team to elusive domestic glory.

Ambani’s topsy-turvy tenure

The proceedings almost took a dramatic turn after a section of an irate fanbase stormed the pitch after the humiliation from the slum boys, baying for the blood of the trainer.

In a swift turnaround that validates the coach’s leadership and management acumen, Ambani has successfully restored a sense of pride to the Den. AFC Leopards are now central to the 2025/26 title race, a position the club has rarely occupied in recent years, despite a revolving door of both local and international managers.

Two-horse race

Currently, Ingwe is fiercely competing with the leaders, Gor Mahia, with whom they are locked in a two-horse race.

After defeating Seal, the former KPL champions are now just two points behind Gor Mahia, despite the latter having a game in hand.

Ambani’s team rose to the occasion to continue their winning run just after Gor Mahia slipped in the title race following a goalless draw against Kariobangi Sharks on Saturday, April 1, at Kasarani Stadium.
