Aldrine Kibet marks another proud career milestone with La Liga 2 debut

Kenyan emerging star Aldrine Kibet marked another proud milestone in his budding career as he featured for Celta Fortuna in their debut season opener in LaLiga 2 on Saturday, August 15, 2026.
The Kenyan U20 attacker started the match and played 45 minutes before being substituted at halftime during Celta Fortuna’s goalless 0-0 draw away to Cádiz CF.
The harambee Stars youngster came close to an opener in the first half, but his effort was thwarted by the Cádiz goalkeeper, who narrowed the angle to deny the attacker.
La Liga 2 moment
His appearance in the 2026–27 Segunda División, the tier directly below La Liga, comes as another milestone for Kibet, who helped the club seal promotion to LaLiga 2 in June 2026.
Coach Fredi Álvarez’s side achieved a historic milestone by ending a 103-year wait to secure the club’s first-ever promotion to the Spanish second tier. The Galician team sealed the feat by thrashing SD Ponferradina 4-1 in the return leg of their promotion playoff final at the Abanca-Balaídos following a 1-1 draw in the first leg.
The achievement continues a positive trajectory for Kibet, who joined Celta Vigo on a four-year contract in July 2025 from the Nàstic Sports Academy. While he was primarily signed for the U19 (Cantera) squad, Kibet’s meteoric rise saw him integrated into Celta Vigo B (Celta Fortuna), putting him closer to the side viewed as a direct stepping stone to the coveted first team.
The Kenyan now joins his compatriot Job Ochieng of Real Sociedad’s reserve team as the second Kenyan export featuring for a B-team in the second tier of Spanish football.
Moving forward, Kibet will look to showcase his individual quality and elevate his club’s status among the premier youth academies in Spain.
The attacker is part of the Kenyan emerging stars looking to prove themselves in the European leagues. Others include his U20 skipper Amos Wanjala, who recently earned a call-up to train with Valencia reserves for the preseason, and Ochieng, who is tipped to be part of Real Sociedad’s first team in 2026/27.
