KK Homeboyz waives entry fee for Sofapaka clash in honour of Silas Abungana

Football Kenya Federation Premier League outfit Kakamega Homeboyz has waived entry fee for their league clash against Sofapaka on Friday, February 2o, 2026, at Bukhungu Stadium.

According to a club statement released on Thursday, February 19, 2026, the move has been taken to give club supporters a chance to converge at Bukhungu in honour of the outfit’s departed defender Silas Abungana.

”In honour of Silas Abungana, tomorrow’s match will be free of charge. The match will be absolutely free. Let’s turn up in our numbers to give our departed brother a befitting send-off. Forever In Our Hearts, Silas,” the statement said.

This comes after Kakamega Homeboyz confirmed that the main person of interest linked to the demise of club defender Silas Abungana has been apprehended. The man at the centre of Abungana’s death is believed to be his brother.

In a club statement on Saturday, February 7, 2026, the Bukhungu-based outfit confirmed the development via a Facebook post. ”The perpetrator behind the death of our dear brother Silas Abungana has been apprehended. We appreciate the swift action by the authorities as we continue to mourn and seek justice for Silas. Forever in our hearts, Silas,” the statement reads in part.

While receiving treatment at the Kakamega County General Hospital on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, Abungana succumbed to his head injuries inflicted on him by his brother over a domestic brawl.

Abungana passes away

”Kakamega Homeboyz Football Club is deeply devastated by the untimely demise of Silas Abungana. The club can confirm that Silas passed away a few minutes before midnight on Wednesday,4 February, while receiving treatment at Kakamega County General Hospital, after succumbing to head injuries sustained during an attack on Tuesday, 3 February night. During this incredibly difficult time, we respectfully request privacy for Silas’ family, teammates, friends, and club officials as we come to terms with this unimaginable loss. The club will issue further communication in due course. Rest in Peace, Silas,” Homeboyz confirmed the sad news.

Silas Abungana’s final journey will begin with a procession from Kakamega County Referral Hospital Mortuary at 3:00 pm to Bukhungu Stadium, shortly after the match against Sofapaka FC on Friday.

At the stadium, supporters, friends, and members of the club will be accorded a solemn opportunity to view his body for one hour and pay their last respects before the cortege proceeds to Muranda. On Saturday, February 21, 2026, an interment procession will be held, after which he will be laid to his final resting place.

As Homeboyz welcome Sofapaka on Friday for another match without Abungana, the club will be remembering the days he spent with them at Bukhungu, as the main person of interest helps the police in investigations.
