KK Homeboyz say man behind Silas Abungana’s tragic death is in custody

Football Kenya Federation Premier League side Kakamega Homeboyz has confirmed that the main person of interest linked to the demise of club defender Silas Abungana has been apprehended. The man at the centre of Abungana’s death is believed to be his brother.
In a club statement on Saturday, February 7, 2026, the Bukhungu-based outfit confirmed the development via a Facebook post. ”The perpetrator behind the death of our dear brother Silas Abungana has been apprehended. We appreciate the swift action by the authorities as we continue to mourn and seek justice for Silas. Forever in our hearts, Silas,” the statement reads in part.
While receiving treatment at the Kakamega County General Hospital on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, Abungana succumbed to his head injuries inflicted on him by his brother over a domestic brawl.

”Kakamega Homeboyz Football Club is deeply devastated by the untimely demise of Silas Abungana. The club can confirm that Silas passed away a few minutes before midnight on Wednesday,4 February, while receiving treatment at Kakamega County General Hospital, after succumbing to head injuries sustained during an attack on Tuesday, 3 February night. During this incredibly difficult time, we respectfully request privacy for Silas’ family, teammates, friends, and club officials as we come to terms with this unimaginable loss. The club will issue further communication in due course. Rest in Peace, Silas,” Homeboyz confirmed the sad news.
Following the incident, Kakamega Homeboyz have dedicated their Round of 64 Cup encounter against Amani Youth FC to Silas Abungana.
”The game unites us, even in grief. Today, we step onto the pitch for the very first time without our dearly departed brother, Silas Abungana.
As one team, one family, we dedicate today’s match to his memory. We play in his honour, in his spirit, and with his strength in our hearts as we stand united for our defender, Silas. Forever in our hearts, Silas,” the club said in a statement on Saturday, February 7, 2026.
As Homeboyz take to the pitch for the first time without Abungana at the Mamboleo Grounds in Kisumu, starting at 1:00 pm local time, the club will be remembering the days Silas spent with them at Bukhungu, as the main person of interest helps the police in investigations.
