Kenya’s Zech Obiero scores for Tranmere Rovers on home debut
By Joel Masibo, February 15, 2026Home debutant Zech Obiero marked his first appearance at Prenton Park in style, finding the back of the net to inspire Tranmere Rovers to a commanding 2-0 victory over Crawley Town in a League Two encounter on Saturday, February 14, 2026.
Memorable home debut
Obiero signalled his intent early in the contest. Inside six minutes, his initial strike was parried by the goalkeeper, and although Sam Finley converted the rebound, the effort was ruled out for offside. The setback, however, did little to slow Rovers’ tempo.

Moments later, the Kenyan forward burst into the penalty area and unleashed a powerful finish into the top of the net, handing the hosts a deserved advantage and registering his maiden goal for the club.
Crawley threatened midway through the first half, but goalkeeper Marko Marosi reacted sharply, diving low to his left to keep out Josh Flint’s close-range attempt. Rovers nearly doubled their cushion in the 25th minute when James Plant’s effort from six yards rattled the crossbar.
At the opposite end, Marosi once again proved decisive, standing firm to deny Ronan Darcy in a one-on-one situation. Just before the interval, Charlie Whitaker was brought down inside the box, earning a penalty. Striker Joe Ironside stepped up confidently and slotted the ball into the bottom-right corner to make it 2-0 heading into the break.
Game management
In the second half, Rovers managed the game effectively, with substitutions including Kristian Dennis and home debutant Max Dickov helping see out the win in front of 5,739 fans, including 181 travelling supporters.

The victory ensured Tranmere secured all three points in front of their home crowd, with Obiero’s memorable debut strike setting the tone for a solid team performance.
