Jaydey Munene delivers Kenya’s gold at Africa Cadet and Junior Fencing Championship

Kenyan prodigies are flying high at the Africa Cadet and Junior Fencing Championship in Dakar, Senegal, as Jaydey Munene becomes the latest to win gold for Kenya at the tourney.
Taking to his social media pages on Saturday, February 21, 2026, Sports Principal Secretary Elijah Mwangi hailed Munene for flying the country’s flag high at the Championship shortly after making it to the podium in his category.
Gold for Jaydey
”Another day; another Kenyan; Another Medal. Jaydey Munene, a 15-year-old fencing prodigy, wins a Silver Medal in the Africa Cadet and Junior Fencing Championship in Dakar, Senegal. He is talented; he wields his epee with the panache and grace of a veteran fighter. He floats; he jabs; he blocks and floats away. He takes medals. Congratulations, Jaydey, for that win! Kenya is proud of you,” Mwangi said.
Munene’s win follows Kiara Kinoti’s gold medal won earlier in the ongoing competitions in Senegal. At just 15 years old, Kinoti etched his name into Africa’s sporting history by clinching a gold medal in the Under-17 category on Thursday, February 19, 2026.
Elijah Mwangi hailed the victory as a powerful symbol of Kenya’s expanding influence across a wide range of sporting disciplines, noting that the country’s sustained investment in nurturing talent is beginning to bear impressive results.

Mwangi elated
“This win is a testament to Kenya’s continued rise as a sporting giant in all sports. As a country, Kenya’s commitment to support and promote talents across diverse sporting disciplines is solid. For proudly flying Kenya’s flag high at the continental stage, we say hongera sana,” Mwangi said, extending heartfelt congratulations and encouragement to the young champion.
Kinoti’s remarkable performance saw him dominate a highly competitive field, showcasing exceptional skill, discipline, and composure well beyond his years.
”Wielding a Sabre like a warrior, Kinoti deflected, parried and launched impressive ripostes against opponents in spectacular moves that earned him the golden crown.” Mwangi added.
As celebrations continue, Kinoti’s and Munene’s golden feats stands as an inspiration to young athletes across the country, proving that dedication, opportunity, and belief can propel Kenyan talent onto the global stage.
