Harambee Stars prodigy Amos Wanjala speaks on Valencia move
Harambee Stars U20 defender Amos Wanjala has expressed gratitude after joining the Spanish La Liga side, VCF Mestalla reserve team.
In a statement released on Monday, January 26, 2025, VCF Mestalla confirmed the signing of Wanjala to strengthen its defence. The 19-year-old player arrives at his new home after competing with Athletic Club Torrellano, where he gained experience in Tercera Federación.
Wanjala seals Valencia move
The centre-back was Kenya’s captain at the most recent Africa U-20 Cup of Nations. Speaking on the move, Wanjala said ot is a great opportunity to feature for the team, promising to achieve more with the team.
“I am very happy to be here at Valencia CF. It is a great Club with a great history. The Valencia CF Academy is a great Academy. It is a great opportunity for me and I want to make the most of it and achieve more success with Valencia CF,” says Amos Wanjala, who has already had the chance to meet his new teammates, whom he hopes to help on the pitch. He defines himself as a centre-back who is “calm and composed, solid and good on the ball,” he said.

Amos Wanjala is already familiar with Spanish football -having played for Athletic Club Torrellano- and also has international experience with the Kenya national team, for whom he is a full international.

“I am very happy to be able to represent my country here in Valencia. It is an achievement for my country, for myself and for my family. I know my family are very happy. They have been with me throughout this journey. Now it is time to bear fruit, and I am also very happy to be here. I know many Kenyans are looking forward to seeing me at Valencia CF, and this is the moment. I am fully focused on the team,” Amos Wanjala added.
Meanwhile, his move to Spain comes at a time when Kenya will need fresh blood, talent and exposure heading into the next edition of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in 2027. The continental premier showpiece will be staged in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania as the host nations.
