Done deal: Arsenal announce Bruno Guimaraes signing

English Premier League reigning champions Arsenal have announced the signing of Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United.
The combative Brazilian midfielder has joined the Gunners in a deal worth Ksh13 billion that will keep him at the club until 2030.
His announcement comes two days after Arsenal and Newcastle United reached a compromise over the player’s valuation, prompting Newcastle to sanction the move to the Emirates.
Arsenal had initially expressed a willingness to pay up to Ksh10.44 billion, but their formal verbal bids were rejected.
The Gunners’ pursuit for the player, however, took an interesting turn on Friday, August 7, 2026, as reports indicated that he was headed to London after completing his medical a day after he had signed his final contracts on Thursday evening.
He joins a stacked midfield that comprises skipper Martin Odegaard, Eberechi Eze, Mikel Merino, Spainard Martin Zubimendi, Lewis Skelly, and Declan Rice as the Gunners head into the new 2026/27 season seeking back-to-back league titles.
The former Newcastle United skipper now becomes one of Mikel Arteta’s standout transfers of the summer after the club’s move for Vinicius Junior hit a snag after the player agreed to a new deal with Real Madrid recently.
Bruno G in numbers
The midfielder made 153 Premier League appearances for the club, scoring 30 times and recording 26 assists, and was also part of the team that won the Carabao Cup in 2025.
The midfielder featured 41 times in all competitions last season, providing nine goals and eight assists.
Guimaraes started all five of Brazil’s games at the 2026 World Cup, providing four assists as the Seleção exited the tournament in the round of 16.
Arsenal’s transfer deals
Meanwhile, Mikel Arteta’s side has parted ways with Danish international Christian Nørgaard, who has joined Everton. The midfielder has left the Emirates in what is seen as a direct transfer aimed at paving the way for the new arrival. The ex-Brentford skipper found playing time hard to come by after his move last season and left North London having featured during Arsenal’s Premier League title campaign, as well as their runs to the Champions League final and the Carabao Cup final.
The champions have also been linked with more outgoing transfers, with the club understood to be in talk with Napoli over a permanent move for Gabriel Jesus. The Gunners are said to be willing to let go of the 28-year-old striker who joined from Manchester City on a permanent basis.
The club’s incoming so far includes Christos Tzolis, Illan Meslier (goalkeeper), and Pierro Hincapie, whose loan switch from Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen was made permanent.
