Chelsea transfer news: Napoli consider move for unwanted Benoit Badiashile

Napoli have reportedly entered the race for Chelsea centre-back Benoit Badiashile as the Blues continue efforts to reduce the number of defenders on their books.
The Serie A club are said to be assessing the possibility of bringing the Frenchman to Italy, with an initial loan deal understood to be their preferred option.
Chelsea, meanwhile, appear determined to find a permanent solution for Badiashile after he fell down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge.
Napoli assess Badiashile opportunity
According to Sky Sports News, Napoli have identified Badiashile as a potential defensive addition ahead of their first campaign under new head coach Massimiliano Allegri.
The Italian side are reportedly looking at a temporary transfer, although Chelsea would rather see the 25-year-old leave on a permanent basis.
A compromise could potentially be reached if Napoli agree to take Badiashile on loan with a mandatory purchase clause included in the agreement.
Napoli are also understood to have considered former West Ham defender Nayef Aguerd as another option.
However, Aguerd’s expected move to Real Sociedad could force the Italian giants to focus their attention more heavily on Badiashile.
Chelsea looking to reshape defence
Badiashile’s possible departure forms part of a wider defensive overhaul at Chelsea following the arrival of Maxence Lacroix.
The London club are also working on exits for other centre-backs who are no longer regarded as key parts of the squad.
Trevoh Chalobah is reportedly close to joining Como, managed by former Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas, while Axel Disasi is considering his next move after spending last season on loan at West Ham.
For Badiashile, the situation represents a significant change from the expectations surrounding his arrival in January 2023.
Chelsea paid around £33m to Monaco for the defender, who arrived in England with a strong reputation and considerable potential.
However, injuries and inconsistent performances have prevented him from establishing himself as a regular starter.
Napoli move could revive Badiashile’s career
At 25, Badiashile still has considerable time to rebuild his career, but regular first-team football is likely to be crucial to his development.
A move to Napoli could provide precisely that opportunity.
The transfer would also give the defender the chance to feature in the Champions League while working under Allegri, one of Europe’s most experienced managers.
Allegri’s preference for a three-man defensive system could potentially suit Badiashile, whose physical attributes and experience could make him a useful option in the Italian coach’s tactical setup.
