Michael Olise and Yan Diomande: Why European clubs are fighting for the 2 stars
By Joel Masibo, July 26, 2026Michael Olise of France and Yan Diomande of Ivory Coast have become targets for major European clubs as the transfer market gathers pace.
Both Olise and Diomande had impressive showings at the just-concluded FIFA World Cup 2026 in the United States of America, Canada and Mexico. At club level, Diomande was a key figure at the Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig, while Olise was also instrumental in Bayern Munich’s impressive run last season.
Bayern Munich sporting director Christoph Freund has played down suggestions that Michael Olise could be heading to Real Madrid, insisting the winger remains a key part of the Bundesliga champions’ plans.

Olise has recently been linked with a switch to the Spanish giants, but Freund said the club has no concerns about his future.
Real Madrid are currently focusing their efforts on signing Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig, while Arsenal continue to monitor the situation surrounding Vinicius Jr.
Real Madrid remain optimistic about signing RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande, despite seeing an opening offer worth £85.4 million (€100 million) turned down.
Reports from Sky Germany claim Leipzig are demanding a significantly higher fee for the 19-year-old Ivory Coast international.
Diomande had previously agreed personal terms with Paris Saint-Germain earlier this summer, but Real Madrid have now also reached an agreement with the player and are regarded as the favourites to complete the transfer.
Michael Olise
The Bayern Munich star is renowned for his exceptional ball-carrying ability and close control. Comfortable receiving the ball in tight spaces, he can glide past defenders with quick changes of direction and intelligent footwork.
His composure in the final third allows him to create chances as well as score, making him a constant threat around the penalty area. Olise’s vision, precise passing, and quality delivery from wide areas complement his dribbling, while his ability to slow down or accelerate attacks makes him difficult for defenders to predict.
He consistently draws multiple opponents, creating space for teammates.
Yan Diomande
On the other hand, Diomande is an explosive and direct attacker whose greatest strength lies in taking on defenders. He uses his pace, power, and confidence on the ball to drive forward, often turning defensive situations into dangerous counter-attacks.
His willingness to run at opponents stretches defensive lines and forces mistakes. In the attacking third, Diomande combines sharp movement with aggressive dribbling, giving him the ability to beat players in wide areas before cutting inside or delivering dangerous balls into the box.
His fearless approach and ability to progress the ball quickly make him a game-changer, especially in transition.

Both players possess the rare ability to carry the ball over long distances while maintaining control, break defensive structures through individual skill, and create opportunities when matches become tight. Their confidence in one-versus-one situations, creativity, and attacking intent make them valuable weapons capable of changing the course of a game with a single moment of brilliance.
