Brian Michira dedicates Shabana’s win to late Kakamega Homeboyz star Silas Abungana

Shabana FC hotshot Brian Michira has added to the members of the football fraternity’s tributes to the departed Kakamega Homeboyz defender Silas Abungana, who was laid to rest on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at his Muranda home in Kakamega County.
Michira took to his X page on Monday, February 23, 2026, to convey his tributes to his former teammate at the club.
“A win over the weekend at home. Great team effort and resilience all through. That was for you, Sila – forever in our hearts,” the attacker posted on his X page.
Abungana, the 27-year-old defender, met his death on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, after succumbing to head injuries inflicted on him by his brother over a domestic brawl.
Following his death, the club decried the loss of an influential player who was just getting his Homeboyz stint started.
“We are saddened to lose one of our defenders. He is a player who recently joined the club but went on to be among the first eleven players for us at the young age of 27,” club chair Cleophas Shimanyula stated.
The foregoing comes after dramatic scenes ensued during a night vigil held on the eve of his burial on Saturday.
Mourners torched two houses belonging to Abungana’s brother, who has been named as a person of interest in the player’s murder.
The enraged mourners also proceeded to set ablaze the deceased’s father’s house in what many have ostensibly attributed to the boiling frustration over the unresolved death of the footballer.
Earlier, during the events leading to his night vigil, supporters, friends, and the club had paid their final respects to the player after his remains were brought to the Bukhungu Stadium before Saturday’s league kickoff against Sofapaka.
Homeboyz edged 2-0 in the rescheduled clash that was also dedicated to the deceased.
