Harambee Stars to face Lesotho after fixture changes in June FIFA window

Kenya’s national football team, Harambee Stars, will now take on Lesotho in two international friendly matches during the upcoming June FIFA international break after adjustments were made to the original schedule.

The Stars had initially been expected to play against Palestine and Kyrgyzstan. However, due to organizational and logistical issues, those fixtures were cancelled and replaced with a two-match series against Lesotho.

Both encounters will be staged at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Pretoria, South Africa, where the Kenyan side will continue its preparations for future competitions.

The first match is scheduled for Thursday, June 4, 2026, while the second will take place on Sunday, June 7, 2026. Kick-off for both games is set for 4:00 pm East Africa Time.

The June camp will offer the coaching staff another valuable opportunity to evaluate players, test tactical approaches, and strengthen the squad as preparations intensify for upcoming continental assignments, including the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (2027 AFCON).

The revised fixtures form part of Harambee Stars’ ongoing efforts to build a competitive team ahead of important engagements on the African football calendar.

Squad outlook

Looking at the squad named by head coach Benni McCarthy earlier, a major highlight is the inclusion of five fresh faces who have received their maiden senior team invitations. These are defender Deon Woodman of Wealdstone FC, Hull City winger Sammy Hena-Kamau, striker Micah Obiero from Wealdstone FC, Stoke City defender Sydney Agina, and ADO Den Haag goalkeeper Caleb Kramer. Their selection reflects the technical bench’s ongoing efforts to strengthen and expand the squad ahead of the AFCON 2027 qualifying campaign.

The squad includes three goalkeepers: Byrne Omondi, Faruk Shikhalo, and Caleb Kramer. In defence, the coaches selected Erick Ouma, Stanley Wilson, Sylvester Owino, Frank Odhiambo, Alphonce Omija, Deon Woodman, Rooney Onyango, and Sydney Agina.

The midfield department features Richard Odada, Chris Erambo, Clarke Odour, Will Lenkupae, Austine Odhiambo, and Zech Obiero.

Leading the attack will be Job Ochieng, Mohammed Bajaber, Ben Stanley, Sammy Hena-Kamau, Micah Obiero, Ryan Ogam, and Lawrence Okoth.
