Wednesday blackout to affect parts of 5 counties

Kenya Power has announced a planned power interruption that will affect parts of five counties on Wednesday, February 4, 2026.

In a notice issued on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, the utility company cited routine network maintenance as the reason for the planned interruption.

The outage is expected to impact customers in Nandi, Bungoma, Homa Bay, Nyeri and Laikipia counties at different times during the day.

In Nandi County, Kenya Power said areas around Kapchemoiywo will be without electricity from 9.00 am to 6.00 pm. The company noted that Kapchemoiywo and nearby customers will be affected during the maintenance period.

In Bungoma County, the interruption will affect Chebukaka and the surrounding areas from 9.00 am to 3.00 pm. Kenya Power said customers in Makhonge, Korosuandet, Mpkani, Chebukeke and neighbouring areas should expect the outage during the scheduled hours.

In Homa Bay County, residents in Oyugis Town and Karabok will experience a blackout from 9.00 am to 4.00 pm. Kenya Power said the outage will also affect areas including Nyangiela, Ombek, Mathenge, God Ber, Ouru, Nyalenda, Riat, Yala Kotieno, Kalanding, Nyabola and Ondingo, among other surrounding locations.

The company also announced another interruption in Homa Bay County that will affect Sindo, Nyandiwa and Magunga from 9.00 am to 4.30 pm. Areas expected to be impacted include Mbita High School, Gingo, Sindo Market, Victory Farms, Nyandiwa Market, Magunga Market, the National Youth Service and nearby customers.

In Nyeri County, Kenya Power said several areas will be affected under the Mount Kenya region. Gatuamba Shopping Centre and Kwa Mberita will be without electricity from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm, affecting Gatuamba, Kwa Mberita, Ndiriti, Gatuamba Secondary School, Gaturiri Dairy and surrounding areas.

Other parts of Nyeri County, including Kanjora and Njoguini, will also experience a blackout from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm. Kenya Power said the interruption will affect areas such as Kanjora Primary School, Ha-Boithi, Munandaini, Kahigaini, Njoguini, Thatha, Kinaini Village, Kimathi Secondary School, Kimathi, Kanyinya Village and Karunaini, as well as nearby customers.

Kenya Power further announced that Kianjogu Coffee Factory and Thaithi Market will also be affected from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm. The company said electricity will be interrupted in Rititi Village, Kianjogu Village, Mahiga-Ini Village, Kianjogu Dispensary, Cheru Village, as well as Safaricom boosters and Airtel boosters within the area.

In Laikipia County, the outage will affect Timau, Maritati and Ngusichi from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm. Kenya Power said areas expected to be impacted include Timau Market, Ngusichi Market, Kwa Nganga Market, Siraj Farm, Batian Farm, Big Flower Farm, Lolmalik Farm, Maritati Market, River Side, Kiambogo Market, Ethi Market, Ngara Ndare Market, Oldonyo Farm, Kirinyaga Seeds, Master Mind Farm, Timau River Lodge and Kiguru Market, among other neighbouring locations.
