Wamuchomba overwhelmed by emotions as village shosh stuns her with deeply personal gift

Githunguri Member of Parliament (MP)  Gathoni Wamuchomba has expressed joy and gratitude after receiving a special kiondo gift from an elderly woman during a village function in her constituency.

Sharing the moment on social media on Wednesday, January 21, 2026,  Wamuchomba said the gift carried deep meaning, noting that in many communities, an elderly woman gifting someone a kiondo, especially one inscribed with their name,  is a powerful symbol of affection, respect, and care.

“When an old woman gifts you a kiondo scribed with your name and she’s not your mother, it signifies very deep affection and care,” she said.

The legislator described elderly women in her constituency as her pillars, saying they have consistently supported her through the ballot in every election.

She said their unwavering loyalty and belief in her leadership continue to inspire her public service.

Wamuchomba revealed that the gift was a surprise, presented to her during a village event in Githunguri. She said the gesture left her deeply touched and elated.

“These mothers are my pillars and they religiously vote for me in every election. Today, a surprise gift was brought to me at a village function. I was elated,” she said.

She went on to thank the people of Githunguri for their continued support, describing the moment as a reminder of the strong bond she shares with the community, particularly elderly women who play a key role in preserving culture and values.

“Thank you, Githunguri,” she added.

The kiondo, a traditional Kenyan woven basket, is often associated with heritage, motherhood, and provision, making the gift especially symbolic.

This comes a few months after she proposed that men should take up the positions held by women representatives across the 47 counties.

Taking to her X account on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, Wamuchomba revisited the unresolved Kware dumpsite killings, where 42 women were murdered and their bodies dumped in Embakasi in July 2023.

She expressed frustration that her push for answers in Parliament led to her suspension, yet no clear outcome has been communicated to date.
