A family in Mulundu village, North Maragoli ward, Sabatia sub-county in Vihiga County is living in fear after their 30-year-old son, Jonson Afanda, was attacked and abducted from his home at night on Friday, January 16, 2026.

According to the family, Afanda disappeared after unknown assailants broke into his house while he was sleeping. His elder brother, Josephat Mugosi, said the house was found ransacked, with household items scattered across the floor.

Mugosi added that Afanda had sent messages to friends and family the previous night warning that strangers were outside his home.

“My brother Jonson was attacked by unknown people on the night of Friday, January 16. They took him without stealing anything. When we entered the house, we found his motorbike overturned, his suitcase ransacked, his phone charging, and his sleeping clothes on the bed. The state of the house suggests he struggled with the abductors but could not escape before they disappeared with him, half-naked,” Mugosi said.

He added that his brother’s slippers were found—one in the compound and the other on the road—alongside a panga hidden behind the main door, indicating a criminal attack.

“We have tried to trace our brother’s whereabouts with no success. We reported the matter to Mudete police station, but no progress has been made,” Mugosi said.

The family fears the worst, suspecting that Afanda may have been killed and his body hidden.

“We are appealing to the police to pursue the abductors and help us recover Jonson’s body, whether he is alive or dead. We are exhausted from searching for him,” Mugosi said.
