Thika police apprehend one person in narcotics crackdown

Police officers from Thika West Sub-County in Kiambu County have cornered a person of interest over drug peddling.
Through a statement via X on Sunday, December 7, 2025, the National Police Service reported that the early morning sweep was part of a wider push to curb rising narcotics activity in the area.
The officers said the target of the planned crackdown was the Majengo zone, where residents have repeatedly raised concerns about substances circulating among the youth.

Crackdown in the Majengo area
The NPS noted that the officers moved in after analysing recent patterns of movement linked to small drug networks.
According to the statement, the team recovered 33 rolls and 26 sachets of cannabis sativa during the raid.
The update added that the items were found in a small hideout believed to have been used for packaging.
The officers confirmed that one suspect was arrested at the scene. The NPS explained that the suspect was taken to Thika Police Station, where he is being held in custody.
“During the operation, officers recovered 33 rolls and 26 sachets of cannabis sativa. The suspect was escorted to the station and is being held in custody pending arraignment in court. The evidence was also secured and stored at the station,” the NPS statement reads.
The police added that the items seized were secured and stored as evidence. The service said this was important for a smooth prosecution.
Part of the official brief included a reminder to residents that the crackdown will continue.

The NPS stressed that narcotics remain a threat to families and communities. The officers also indicated that they are tracing more individuals who may have links to the seized drugs.
The NPS statement highlighted the national effort. It said the service has been adjusting its strategies to match the ways drug traffickers operate.
The update noted that law enforcement has been receiving more cooperation from locals. The service added that tips from residents have helped officers identify hotspots faster.
The statement added that the public should stay alert. It said citizens are encouraged to report any suspicious behaviour.
The Police Service said this support strengthens operations and improves response time.
The statement added that the information shared will be handled with confidentiality.
Public urged to support officers
The NPS appealed for continued vigilance in Kiambu County and beyond.
A section of the report said officers are determined to reduce the narcotics supply. It added that more operations will follow.
“We reiterate our commitment to tackling the menace of narcotics and illicit substances across the country,” the NPS statement reads.
The service urged members of the public to make use of toll-free lines and share information that may prevent further harm.
