Senator Methu confident he’ll shave beard in 17 months, predicts Ruto’s defeat

Nyandarua Senator John Methu has expressed confidence that President William Ruto will serve only one term, vowing to shave his beard in 17 months as a symbolic gesture of that belief.

Speaking during an interview at a local TV station on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, Methu said his stance is not driven by personal animosity but by dissatisfaction with the president’s leadership.

“I voted for President Ruto. This is not defiance; I don’t hate him as a person, but his leadership is inept. He has not lived up to the expectations of what he promised the people,” Methu stated.

The senator said his confidence stems from the feedback he has received while traveling across the country.

According to him, residents from the Coast region, Mt Kenya, and Nyanza have expressed a desire for political change in the next general election.

“The reason why I am confident I will become neat in the next 17 months is because I have moved around this country. I have been to the Coast, to my backyard Mt Kenya and Nyanza, and they said they will remove him.So I am very confident that I will shave my beard in the next 17 months.”

Who is Methu?

Methu was elected in the 2022 general elections under the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party ticket.

At 35 years old, he holds the distinction of being the youngest senator in Kenya’s 13th Parliament.

His political journey began with a failed attempt for the Nyandarua Senate seat in 2017 under the Maendeleo Chap Chap Party, but his persistence paid off five years later.
