Ruto visits late Johana Ngeno’s family to offer condolences

President William Ruto has visited the home of the late Emurua Dikirr Member of Parliament Johana Ng’eno as the nation continues to mourn the lawmaker killed in a tragic helicopter crash in Nandi County.
In photos shared on his Facebook on Monday, 2, 2026, the President made it to the late legislator’s home in Mogondo Ward, Narok County, where residents and leaders had gathered to pay their respects.
“Mheshimiwa, you did your best. You contributed to the welfare of the community, the nation and humanity. Condoled with the family of my friend, the Late Mheshimiwa Johana Ng’eno, at their Karen home. May we draw comfort from the word of the Lord in Psalm 147:3: “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”
The visit comes a day after the crash that claimed Ng’eno’s life alongside five others in Mosop Sub‑County, Nandi County, on Saturday, February 28, 2026.

In his tribute to the Ngeno on Saturday, Ruto described the loss as a heavy blow to the country.
“I have received with profound shock and deep sadness the news this evening of the passing of Emurua Dikirr Member of Parliament, Mheshimiwa Johana Ng’eno. My friend, Mheshimiwa Ng’eno, was a progressive and devoted servant of the people who worked tirelessly on behalf of the residents of Emurua Dikirr,” Ruto said.
Adding;
“He was focused, vocal, and fearless; a leader who stood firmly for justice and equity for all. He will be remembered for the tangible progress achieved under his leadership and his exemplary commitment to promoting local talent, especially in music. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, his friends, the people of Emurua Dikirr, and all the victims and families affected by the helicopter crash in Mosop, Nandi County.”
Mosop crash
The helicopter, an Airbus Helicopters H125, registration 5Y‑DSB, was on a charter flight when it went down in the Chepkiep area of Mosop Sub‑County in the late afternoon of February 28. Police said the aircraft was forced to make an emergency landing amid heavy rain and bad weather, then attempted to take off again before it crashed and burst into flames.

The crash occurred around 4:45 pm., killing all six people on board. The victims included Johana Ng’eno, George Were, the pilot, Amos Kipngetich Rotich, a Kenya Forest Service officer, and Nick Koskei, a journalist and photographer. The identities of the remaining two victims are being confirmed.
The remains of the victims were taken to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret, where officials said the bodies were badly damaged, making immediate identification difficult.
Authorities have launched a formal probe into the circumstances that led to the crash. The Aircraft Accident Investigation Department (AAID) is leading the investigation in line with international aviation protocols. Police have urged the public to remain calm as investigations continue.
