Raila Odinga Jr vows to tackle water shortages in Kibra
Raila Odinga Jr has pledged to take decisive action to address the persistent water shortages affecting Kibra, following sustained engagement with community leaders and relevant authorities.
In a statement on Thursday, January 22, 2026, Raila Jr said the issue was firmly raised during an engagement with the Kamkunji Pressure Group last Sunday, January 18, 2026, where residents expressed concerns over an unreliable water supply in the constituency.
He noted that the discussions marked the beginning of concrete steps toward resolving the long-standing problem.
“Today, Nairobi City Water & Sewerage Company—led by Chief Officer Oscar Omoke and MD Martin Nangole—hosted a constructive meeting with Kamkunji Pressure Group leaders and MCAs from Kibra.”
According to Raila Jr, the meeting resulted in the agreement on several actionable interventions designed to improve water access in the area.
While he did not disclose all the technical details, he emphasised that the measures discussed would go a long way in easing the burden faced by Kibra residents once implemented.
However, Raila Jr stressed that technical interventions alone may not be sufficient. He underscored the importance of a political solution that actively involves Kibra’s leadership, noting that collaboration and goodwill among elected leaders would significantly enhance the success and sustainability of the agreed interventions.

“We agreed on concrete measures to address water shortages; however, a political solution involving Kibra leadership would greatly increase the success of the interventions agreed on,” he added.
This comes a few days after he and Winnie Odinga drew a large crowd to Kamukunji Grounds in Nairobi, signalling the continued influence of the Odinga family in national politics and within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
The East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP arrived at the historic venue in the afternoon to cheers from thousands of supporters. Chants and slogans filled the grounds as speakers praised her father, veteran opposition leader Raila Odinga, and called for unity within the party.

The day began earlier in Kibra’s Makina area, where Winnie attended a church service at ACK Holy Trinity Parish. She arrived alongside her brother, Raila Odinga Junior, and Kilimani MCA Moses Ogeto. During the service, Winnie spoke emotionally about returning to Kibra, an area closely associated with her family’s political life.
She told the congregation that she had delayed her return because of the emotional weight of coming back without her father by her side. She apologised to residents for taking time to re-engage with the community and admitted she struggled to know how to address them without becoming overwhelmed.
