PHOTOS: David Maraga pays visit to late Jirongo’s family in Gigiri

Former Chief Justice David Maraga has visited the home of the late Cyrus Jirongo in Gigiri to console his family and friends following the politician’s death.
In a statement shared via his X account on Thursday, December 18, 2025, Maraga, who was accompanied by leaders from the DNA Party Kenya and young aspirants from the United Green Movement, expressed sympathy to those mourning the former Lugari MP.
Maraga described Jirongo as a prominent figure whose passing has left many questions, and he urged criminal justice institutions to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding his death.
“Together with the @DNAPartyKe leader Hon. Godfrey Kanoti & young aspirants from the United Green Movement Party, I condoled with the family of the Former Assistant Minister and Member of Parliament for Lugari, Hon. Cyprus Jirongo.

The death of the late Hon Cyrus Jirongo is shrouded in mystery with contradictory “witness” accounts. It is not lost on us that Hon. Jirongo has been raising very many uncomfortable truths. As such justice demands that the institutions of criminal justice unravel the circumstances surrounding the death of Hon Jirongo. I once more extend our condolences to the family and friends of Hon. Jirongo,” Maraga stated.

Jirongo, a well‑known politician and businessman, died in a road traffic accident on Saturday, December 13, 2025, along the Nakuru–Nairobi Highway near Karai in Naivasha.
Preliminary police reports indicate his vehicle was involved in a head‑on collision with a Climax Company Ltd passenger bus in the early hours of that day.
The crash was severe and pushed his vehicle some 25 metres from the point of impact.
Investigators have recovered CCTV footage showing the movements of Jirongo’s vehicle moments before the collision. The bus driver was questioned and released on cash bail and is required to report back to the Naivasha Traffic Base later this month.
On December 17, a post‑mortem examination was conducted at Lee Funeral Home in Nairobi by government and family pathologists. The findings confirmed that Jirongo died from blunt force trauma and severe internal injuries sustained in the crash.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has launched a thorough probe to reconstruct the events leading up to the accident. Detectives are interviewing witnesses, reviewing additional CCTV footage, and retracing Jirongo’s movements before the crash.
Jirongo’s family has set December 30, 2025, as the date for his burial at his Lumakanda home in Kakamega County, where he will be laid to rest beside his parents.
