A police operation in Madogo Town, Tana River County, turned chaotic after a person of interest assaulted an officer during a drug crackdown.

According to a statement issued by the National Police Service (NPS) on Friday, February 13, 2026, officers from Madogo Police Station carried out a targeted raid at Adele Estate as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle drug distribution networks in the region. The operation led to the arrest of three individuals and the recovery of a significant quantity of narcotics.

Police recovered 672 rolls of cannabis sativa, commonly known as bhang, 700 grams of cannabis seeds, and 1.73 kilograms of unprocessed cannabis. The drugs were seized during the swoop at the estate.

“Yesterday, officers from Madogo Police Station conducted a targeted operation at Adele Estate within Madogo Town, Tana River County, as part of sustained efforts by the National Police Service to dismantle drug distribution networks across the country. Three suspects were apprehended, and substantial quantities of narcotic substances and related materials were recovered, including 672 rolls of cannabis sativa (bhang), 700 grams of cannabis sativa seeds, and 1.73 kilograms of unprocessed cannabis sativa,” NPS stated.

Drama unfolded when one individual reportedly turned violent and attacked an officer in an attempt to resist arrest. The person of interest is also said to have tried to obstruct the operation by inciting members of the public.

Despite the hostility, officers managed to regain control of the situation and complete the raid. The three individuals were escorted to Madogo Police Station, where they are being held pending arraignment in court. The recovered narcotics were secured at the station as exhibits.

Despite the hostility, the officers maintained professionalism and successfully contained the situation. The three suspects were escorted to Madogo Police Station and placed in custody pending arraignment, while the exhibits were secured at the same police station,” the statement read further.

The National Police Service said the operation forms part of sustained efforts to curb drug trafficking and abuse within communities. Authorities have urged members of the public to continue sharing credible information to support the fight against illegal drugs and other criminal activities.
