Governor Nyong’o mourns death of Kisumu CEC Salmon Orimba
Kisumu governor Anyang’ Nyong’o has announced the death of Salmon Orimba, the County Executive Committee Member for Public Service, County Administration and Participatory Development in Kisumu County.
In a press statement to newsrooms as obtained by K24 Digital correspondence on Monday, February 23, 2026, the governor expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing Orimba as a trusted colleague, dependable partner in service, and a close friend whose dedication to public service left a lasting impact on the county.
“With gross pain and remorse, I share the painful news of the passing of Hon. Salmon Orimba,” Nyong’o said.
He noted that the late county official had served in his administration since his first term in office.
The governor praised Orimba’s leadership qualities, describing him as humble, disciplined, and committed to strengthening public institutions.
Over the years, Orimba served in several key portfolios including Water, Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change, Infrastructure, Energy and Public Works, and most recently Public Service and County Administration.

“From the very first day I invited Salmon to join my team during my first term as Governor, I recognized in him a rare blend of humility, discipline and quiet strength. He carried responsibility with grace,” the governor stated.
The county boss added that Orimba was known for his calm and thoughtful counsel during critical decision-making moments, emphasizing that his work consistently focused on improving service delivery for ordinary citizens.
“He believed deeply in building strong institutions and in ensuring that government works for ordinary citizens. He was steady when challenges arose and generous in giving credit to others,” he said.
The governor described Orimba’s death as a major loss not only to the county executive but also to residents of Kajulu, whom he served with dedication and dignity.
Nyong’o further extended condolences to the family alongside his spouse, Dorothy Nyong’o, thanking them for allowing Orimba to serve the public.

“To his family, together with Mama Kisumu Mrs. Dorothy Nyong’o, we extend our most heartfelt condolences. His legacy lives on in the systems he strengthened, the projects he guided, and the many lives he touched,” he said.
Kisumu senator Tom Ojienda also mourned Orimba describing him as a committed public servant who served the county with dedication and resilience.
In his condolence message, the Kisumu Senator said he had received the news of Orimba’s passing with great sadness following an illness the county official battled courageously.
“Orimba was a dedicated public servant whose commitment to strengthening county administration and promoting participatory development touched many lives across our county. His steady leadership, humility and tireless service will be remembered for years to come,” Ojienda stated.

He extended condolences to the bereaved family, friends, colleagues and the entire county government fraternity, urging them to remain strong during the difficult period of mourning.
