NTSA warns public against website scams weeks after fraudulent traffic messages
The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has warned members of the public against a fraudulent website operating under the name Mverified, saying it has no link to the agency.
In a notice shared on its official X account on Thursday, January 15, 2026, NTSA said the fake website has been misleading motorists by posing as an official platform for traffic-related services. The authority noted that several Kenyans have already fallen victim to the scam, with some being tricked into paying money through the site.
“Alert: Mverified website does not belong to NTSA. If you have been conned via this website, report the matter to the nearest police station,” NTSA stated.
NTSA clarified that all its legitimate services, including verification of traffic offences and vehicle-related records, are only offered through officially recognised government platforms.

This warning comes weeks after NTSA issued a separate alert following reports of fraudsters sending fake SMS messages to motorists, claiming they were traffic violation notices.
In a statement released on Thursday, December 18, 2025, the authority said the fraudulent messages urged recipients to pay alleged traffic fines through an online link that was not linked to NTSA in any way. The agency clarified that the website shared in the messages was fake and not operated by the authority.
NTSA said it was working closely with investigative agencies to trace the individuals behind the scam and stop further losses. At the same time, the authority advised the public to take precautionary measures to protect themselves from falling victim.
Motorists were urged not to click on links contained in suspicious messages, not to respond to such SMS alerts, and not to make any payments through unverified platforms. Those who had already made payments were advised to contact their banks immediately to try to block or reverse the transactions. NTSA also encouraged recipients to delete the fraudulent messages from their phones.
The authority reminded Kenyans that all official traffic-related notifications are only sent through the recognised SMS short names NTSA and 22847_NTSA. It also clarified that its only official website is ntsa.go.ke.
