NTSA shuts down online portal for weekend maintenance
By Dan Kauna, July 18, 2026Motorists and transport operators across the country will have to put their digital transactions on hold this weekend. This follows a move by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) to temporarily take down its online services to allow room for system upgrades.
The downtime means popular services like logbook transfers and driving licence applications are out of reach until Monday morning.
According to a public alert shared by the transport regulatory body on X, the “System Unavailability” is part of routine technical updates.
The authority explained that the move aims to make their platforms faster and more dependable for the public.
Scheduled system maintenance
The authority noted that the interruption is a planned exercise to improve service delivery.
In the official notice, NTSA specified that the network will undergo “scheduled preventive maintenance” starting Friday, July 17, 2026, at 8 pm to Monday, July 20, 2026, at 8 am. During this specific window, all major digital applications hosted on the platform will remain completely offline.

Everyday Kenyans who use the portal for tasks like applying for smart driving licences, vehicle registration, and checking car details are advised to plan around these times.
Alternative support channels
Recognising that the temporary closure might disrupt plans for vehicle owners and business partners, the authority asked for patience. The notice, issued under the desk of the Director General, reached out to transport stakeholders to bear with the technical team while they work on the system.
The authority stated: “We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to offer quality services to you.”
For individuals who have urgent issues or need help while the main portal is down, NTSA has shared other ways to get in touch. “For support contact us through info@ntsa.go.ke or visit the nearest NTSA office,” the notice added.
Normal operations on the portal are expected to resume fully on Monday morning once the maintenance work is finished.
