Nairobi Expressway announces traffic diversion at Westlands exit for 12-day maintenance works

Moja Expressway Company issued an official public notice informing road users of temporary diversions to allow essential construction and deck repairs along the elevated highway corridor.
The scheduled maintenance work begins at 8:00 pm on September 8, 2026, and will conclude at 5:00 pm on September 20, 2026. Drivers exiting the expressway around the Westlands area are advised to prepare for rerouted traffic patterns throughout the 12-day service period.
Traffic adjustments and exit routes
According to the company, the maintenance activities are targeted at a specific section of the infrastructure. The public notice states that engineering teams will undertake “maintenance and construction works along the elevated overpass deck after the Nairobi Westlands Exit.”
To guide drivers safely away from the active construction zone, the highway operator has outlined specific routing instructions for vehicles leaving the toll road.
“During this period, motorists exiting at the Nairobi Westlands are strictly instructed to join the lower A8 road on Waiyaki Way,” the company explained in the notice.
Addressing potential operational concerns, Moja Expressway Company assured motorists that toll payment processes will not be disrupted during the work, writing, “Toll station operations remain fully unaffected.”
This confirms that Electronic Toll Collection, card, and cash operations at all toll plazas will run normally.
Safety guidance for motorists
The public notice poster shows the elevated expressway deck running parallel to high-rise commercial structures along Waiyaki Way, where traffic will transition onto the lower road network.
To maintain orderly traffic flow and prevent bottlenecks at the diversion point, ground officers will be present throughout the duration of the works.
“Drivers are urged to exercise caution and follow the instructions of traffic marshals stationed along the route,” the company stated in its security advisory.
The road management firm also acknowledged the impact of the temporary disruption on daily city commuters. “We apologize for any inconvenience caused and thank you for choosing the Nairobi Expressway,” the company added.
