Murang’a governor Kang’ata to stay away from office for one month after injury
Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata has announced that he will stay away from his office for a period of one month after tripping while attending a meeting in Nairobi.
The governor explained that the decision was arrived at following an assessment by doctors, adding that the same is necessary for his recovery.
An update provided by the Governor indicates that he was attending a meeting in Nairobi on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, when he tripped.
The incident left him with an injury to his heel tendons, which will take time to heal.
“Murang’a County Government wishes to inform the public that H.E. Gov. Irungu Kang’ata was today attending a Nutritional International meeting in Nairobi when he unfortunately tripped and sustained an injury to his heel tendons,” the statement released on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, which was also shared by the governor on his social media account, reads.
Kang’ata receiving treatment
The county boss was rushed to the hospital for treatment, with medics advising that he should stay away from physical office engagements.

“Following medical assessment, the Governor is currently receiving treatment and has been advised to remain away from physical office engagements for approximately one (1) month to allow for full recovery,” the statement added.
Kang’ata will continue to discharge his duties away from the office for the entire duration.
Officials who will represent the governor
The Murang’a county deputy governor will represent him in engagements where his physical presence is required as he continues to recover.
The County Executive Committee Member for Finance, Prof. Kiarie, will also step in to handle designated engagements as appropriate.
“Where the Governor’s physical presence is required, the Deputy Governor, H.E. Stephen Munania, will represent him,” added the statement.
Some engagements will also be handled by the County Executive Committee Member for Finance, Prof. Kiarie, as delegated by the governor and his deputy.

“Alternatively, the County Executive Committee Member for Finance, Prof. Kiarie, will handle designated engagements as appropriate.
The governor will be available for all official meetings via online platforms and will continue to execute all duties that do not require his physical presence in the office.
“Murang’a County Government appreciates the continued prayers and goodwill from residents and stakeholders, and we wish the Governor a speedy recovery,” the statement concluded.
