Kenya Power working to restore electricity along Ring Road Westlands after cable vandalism

Residents and business owners along Ring Road in Westlands, Nairobi, faced unexpected power disruptions on August 31, 2026, after vandals targeted the local electricity grid.
The utility provider confirmed the incident through an official update on X, reassuring affected customers that repair crews were already on the ground to replace damaged lines and restore power supply.
Emergency cable replacement works
In their statement, Kenya Power explained that emergency technicians responded quickly to inspect the damage along the affected stretch of the road.
“Our team is currently carrying out restoration works along Ring Road, Westlands, following vandalism of the power network,” the company stated.
Photos released by the electricity distributor showed technicians working along the roadside to repair the line. Dressed in blue and yellow reflective safety overalls, crew members worked at different points near the pavement.
One technician was raised high into the air inside a bucket truck crane to repair overhead wires. On the ground, another worker managed exposed cables inside a concrete pit next to a parked Kenya Power utility truck.
The company confirmed that damaged parts of the network were being replaced to bring the grid back to normal operations.
“The cables are being replaced, and we will provide an update once the work is complete,” the update added.
Reporting outages and grid protection
Equipment vandalism remains a major operational challenge for utility providers across the country, often leading to unplanned blackouts for businesses and households.
Westlands hosts numerous office spaces, commercial buildings, and residential estates that rely heavily on a stable power connection.
Kenya Power acknowledged the inconvenience caused to local consumers and expressed gratitude for their patience during the repair process.
“Thank you for your patience and understanding,” the power company noted.
To ensure fast response times for future incidents, the utility firm reminded citizens to use official channels when reporting blackouts, damaged equipment, or suspicious activities near power lines.
