Kenya Power has announced a scheduled power interruption in parts of Kakamega County on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, to facilitate planned maintenance works on its electricity network.

In a public notice issued on Tuesday evening, June 9, 2026, the utility company said the outage will affect customers in parts of Khwisero Sub-county between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

The maintenance exercise is part of ongoing efforts to improve service reliability and ensure the stability of the power distribution network.

“Good evening. Attached are the areas scheduled for planned power maintenance tomorrow, 10.06.2026. We appreciate your understanding,” Kenya Power announced.

Areas affected

According to Kenya Power, the following areas will experience the planned outage: Buchenya, Shikunga, Ikolomani, Khwisero, Mulwanda, Khumusalaba, Emalindi, Ekambuli and adjacent customers.

“Buchenya, Shikunga, Ikolomani, Khwisero, Mulwanda, Khumusalaba, Emalindi, Ekambuli & adjacent customers,” the utility company announced.

Residents and businesses in the affected areas have been advised to plan accordingly and make the necessary arrangements to minimise disruptions during the maintenance period.

Power is expected to be restored once the maintenance exercise is completed.

Banking hall closure

This comes days after Kenya Power announced its decision to close all payment counters in its banking halls by June 2027.

The closure of payment counters forms part of a broader digital transformation strategy at Kenya Power.

Customers can already buy electricity tokens, pay bills, access receipts, submit meter readings and report outages using digital platforms.

The company is also investing in smart meters, optical character recognition (OCR) technology and self-reading systems to improve billing accuracy and reduce operational costs.

Three-phase closure plan

Kenya Power will implement the banking hall closure programme in three stages.

The first phase targets payment counters in Nyeri, Thika and Kisii by the end of June 2026.

The second phase will affect Nakuru, Kisumu Electricity House and Eldoret by December 31, 2026.

The final phase will see Nairobi Electricity House, Stima Plaza and Mombasa Electricity House stop receiving payments by June 30, 2027.

Despite the closure of payment counters, Kenya Power says customer service offices will remain available for support and assistance during the transition period.
