Kenya Power lists areas to experience blackouts on Thursday, July 16

Kenya Power has announced a scheduled interruption of electricity supply across parts of seven counties on Thursday, July 16, 2026. The national utility provider issued an update on Wednesday evening, alerting the public to prepare for the routine maintenance programme.
Through an official communication on X, the distributor stated, “Good Evening. The listed areas will be under planned power maintenance tomorrow (16th July 2026).”
The exercise forms part of the provider’s ongoing countrywide system checks to ensure network reliability.
Residents in the affected areas have been advised to plan their activities accordingly, as the scheduled maintenance will span between eight and nine hours depending on the specific location.
Mt Kenya and Coast regions
In Nyeri County, the blackout will run from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. in Chinga and Demka areas. Key facilities affected include Chinga Boys, Chinga Girls, Demka Dairies, Mukurweini Water Works, and Ruruguti Market.
The outage will also hit Ark Lodge, Amboni, and Bondeni areas within the same timeframe. In Meru County, power will be off from 8.00 am to 5.00 pm, affecting Nchiru, Kagaene, and Machagene, alongside Meru University of Science & Technology and Mbeu Sub-District Hospital.

Down at the Coast, Mombasa County residents in Utange Barawa and Miwembeni will experience the interruption from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm. This will affect Joho Secondary Utange, Kiembeni, Bamburi Mwisho, and Naivas Bamburi.
In Kwale County, the outage is scheduled from 9.00 am to 4.00 pm, touching on Msambweni, Vingujini, Samburu Town, and Kanagoni, including Msambweni Hospital, Msambweni Police, and Vigurungani.
Outages in Western, North Rift, and South Nyanza
In the Western region, parts of Kisumu County will face disruptions from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. The main affected area is Okore Ogonda, which includes Jans Academy, Susan Owiyo, and Hon Raila’s Residence.
Meanwhile, in Uasin Gishu County within the North Rift, the distributor will switch off power from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm in Tilol, Songich, and Wonifour, affecting Chuiyat, Kileges, and Sirwo.

Finally, in Migori County within the South Nyanza region, the maintenance is set for 8.30 am to 5.00 pm. The affected spots include Migori Airstrip, Masaba Village, Owiro Akoko, and Piny Owacho.
The utility firm has expressed regrets for any inconvenience caused to households and businesses during this grid maintenance exercise.
