Kenya Power lists areas to experience blackout on Thursday, July 2
Kenya Power has listed several areas across the country that will experience scheduled power interruptions on Thursday, July 2, 2026.
In a notice shared on Wednesday evening, the electricity provider explained that “the interruption is part of network maintenance” aimed at improving grid reliability.
The planned blackouts will affect parts of Kiambu, Kwale, Mombasa, Nyeri, Tharaka Nithi, Nandi, and Kisumu counties.
Outages in Coast and Mt Kenya regions
Coast residents will have to do without electricity for a good part of the day.
In Kwale County, the blackout will run from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. It will affect major spots around Diani Swahili Beach and Kaskazi, including the Swahili Beach Resort, Kaskazi Hotel, Carrefour and Chandarana supermarkets, Diani Marine, and the Forty Thieves area.

In Mombasa County, power will be switched off from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM around Migadini Estate, affecting Migadini Primary School, St Lwanga, and the Migadini Police Station. Those in the Tezo and Chumani areas will face a shorter interruption running from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
Moving to the Mt Kenya region, parts of Nyeri County will face an eight-hour blackout from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. This will affect the Tree Tops area, impacting Mary Immaculate Hospital, Baraka Children’s Home, and Kamwenja TTC.
The same timings will apply to Gakindu, Wahundura, and Tambaya villages. Over in Tharaka Nithi County, the interruption starts a bit earlier at 8:30 AM and runs until 5:00 PM, hitting Itugururu Market, Itugururu Secondary School, and Kathagara Primary Village.
Affected areas in Kiambu, Nandi, and Kisumu
In the North Eastern region, parts of Kiambu County are on the list for a 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM outage. Affected areas include the Carbacid Factory, Rukuma, Kimende, Escarpment, Kinale, and the Soko Mjinga market.

Further West, Nandi County residents in Maraba, Senetwo, Kamelilo, Songhor, and areas near Soba River will lose power from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM. Meanwhile, Kisumu County will experience a shorter outage from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM, affecting Orongo Primary School, Tosha Petrol, and Ola Petrol stations.
