Kenya Power lists areas to experience blackout on July 8

Kenya Power has announced planned electricity interruptions in parts of West Pokot, Nyeri, Murang’a and Embu counties on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, to facilitate maintenance and improvement works on the power network.

In a public advisory issued on Tuesday evening, July 7, 2026, the utility company announced that the scheduled outages will affect customers for several hours, with most areas expected to be without electricity between 8.00 a.m. and 5.00 p.m. or 9.00 a.m. and 5.00 p.m., depending on the location.

“Good evening, esteemed customers. Kindly receive the areas scheduled for planned power interruption for maintenance tomorrow, Wednesday 08.07.2026,” Kenya Power stated.

Kenya Power apologised to customers who will be affected by the planned electricity interruption.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused,” Kenya Power said.

Specific areas set to be affected

  • West Pokot County

In the North Rift Region, power will be interrupted from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm in parts of Kacheliba and Alale.

Areas to be affected include Mtembur, Serewo, Kitalakapel, Kacheliba, Orolwo, Lokichar, Timale, Kodich, Nakwijit, Karameri, Konyao, Kodera, Ngotut, Kasei, Losam, Natimeri, Kiwawa, Chelopoy, Alale and adjacent customers.

  • Nyeri County

In the Mt Kenya Region, Kenya Power has scheduled an electricity interruption from 8.00 am to 5.00 pm in the Kirimara High School area.

The blackout will affect Kiangogoyo, Karindundu Coffee Factory, Kiahiti, Kirimara High School, Iruruma, Muchohi, Mutoi, Ndima-ini Market, Mutuma-ini, Kahuta-ini, Kianyange, Kiriko, Muhaka-ini, Safaricom boosters, Airtel boosters and neighbouring customers.

  • Murang’a County

Also in the Mt Kenya Region, parts of Kabuta, Bishop Perlo and Nokras Riverline will experience a power interruption from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm.

Areas to be affected include Bishop Perlo, Kabuta, Gakonya, Nokras Hotel, Murang’a Girls, Kiangatia Primary and adjacent customers.

  • Embu County

Parts of Iriamurai, Makima and Machanga in Embu County will also experience a planned power outage from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.

The affected areas include Machanga, Iriamurai, Thiba Farm, Jaganathi Farm, Kianjiru, Kamutuanjiri, Makima Market, Kanyonga Secondary School, Ngecha Market, Mbondoni Market, Mbondoni Safaricom, Kitololoni Market, Mulukusi Market, Mwanyani Market, Urua, Ndunguni, Unguni and neighbouring customers.

Power supply is expected to be restored once the scheduled maintenance works are completed, although restoration times may vary depending on the progress of the works.
