Kenya Power lists areas to be affected by blackout on Friday, May 22
Kenya Power has announced a scheduled power interruption affecting several parts of the country on Friday, May 22, 2026, as part of routine maintenance works aimed at improving electricity supply reliability.
According to the notice, issued on Thursday, May 21, 2026, the blackout will affect regions in the North Rift, Mt. Kenya, and Nairobi, with different areas experiencing outages at specific times during the day.
North Rift Region
Affected areas, including Ndupenet, Nigeria Water, Ngara Falls, Ngechek, Kampnyamisa, Lelboinet, Nigeria Girls, Koros Secondary School, Tegut, Kapngetuny, Ndupenet and Belkenya, will experience a power interruption from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
Areas such as Aturukan, Kibomet Primary, Aturukan Hotel, Mt. Elgon Dairies, Sinendet Centre, Kibomet Primary School, Bishop Yego, Sirwo Resort, Mwaita Primary School, Tuigoin Centre, Kiptenden, Kuriot, Parkera and Murgoiyo will be affected from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
Mt. Kenya Region
Gatumbiro Market, Gatumbiro Boosters, Huhoini Market and Schools, Kiahiti, TEAWASCO, Gaithuri, Gatawa TBC, Wagatu TBC, Kirurumi Dispensary and Gathathini School will experience outages from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Muthatari, Itabua, NTSA offices, Nthokis, Kimangaru, Karurina, Ithangave, Mugoya Police, Njakairi, Tenri Hospital, NCPB, Embu Prisons, Jumbo Nut, Privam Nuts, Viezina, Iveche and Kamiu will be affected from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm.
“Affected areas: Nthokis, Kimangaru, Karurina, Ithangave, Mugoya Police, Njakairi, Muthatari, Tenri Hosp, NCPB, Prisons, Jumbo Nut, Privam Nuts, Viezina, Iveche, Kamiu, Embu NTSA & adjacent customers,” The company said.
Nairobi Region
Matumbatu Road, Upper Hill, Matumbato Flats, Canaan Apartments, KWFT, Regent Valuers and adjacent customers will experience a power interruption from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
Kenya Power stated that the interruption is necessary to facilitate maintenance works aimed at improving electricity supply stability.
