Kenya Power announces blackout in parts of 4 counties on Friday, September 4

Kenya Power has announced planned power interruptions in parts of four counties on Friday, September 4, 2026, as the utility company carries out network maintenance.
In a notice shared on the evening of Thursday, August 3, 2026, Kenya Power revealed that the affected areas are spread across Nandi, Kisumu, Nyeri and Nakuru counties, with some customers expected to remain without electricity for several hours during the scheduled maintenance operations.
In Nandi County, the interruption will affect Kimwani and surrounding areas, with the power outage scheduled to run from 9:30 am to 5 pm.
Customers in Kimwani, Mberere and adjacent areas have been advised to prepare for the interruption during the maintenance period.
In Kisumu County, Kenya Power has listed Chemelil among the areas that will experience an interruption on Friday.
The Chemelil outage is scheduled to begin at 9 am and run until 5 pm, affecting Chemelil Market, Gotwinyithindo Primary School, Powerteng, Onyalo Biro and Ayiecho Olweny Secondary School.
Other affected areas include Ng’eny Primary School, Chinese Quarry and adjacent customers within the scheduled maintenance zone.
In Nyeri County, Kenya Power has announced two separate areas that will experience planned power interruptions.
Customers around Kangubiri Girls and Ihigaini will be without electricity from 9 am to 5 pm, with the affected areas including Sagana Falls Station, Ihigaini, Gakoe Coffee Factory, Kaigonde, Kangubiri Girls, Mr Kanyi, Dansun and Kiunge.
Another interruption in Nyeri will affect Ihururu Market and Mwenji during the same 9 am to 5 pm period.
The affected areas include Mwenji, Mwenji Market, Ihururu Village, Muhoya Drive, Kabendera, Nyamakuyu TBC, Nyamakuyu PCEA and Ihururu Town, alongside adjacent customers.
In Nakuru County, the planned interruption will affect Mai Mahiu and surrounding areas.
The Mai Mahiu power cut will begin at 8 am and continue until 5 pm, making it the earliest scheduled interruption among the areas listed in the notice.
Customers in the affected area include those around River Springs Hotel, Mayers, Namja, China Wu-Yi, Gold Stone Quarry, Manyata Quarry and Yellow Stones Quarry.
Other locations listed under the Mai Mahiu interruption are Kingston Quarry, Ewaso Kedong Market, Najire Girls and Earth Station, together with adjacent customers.
Kenya Power said the planned interruptions are part of network maintenance operations and apologised to customers for any inconvenience that may arise during the exercise.
The utility company urged customers seeking advance information on planned interruptions to check its latest maintenance schedule.
Kenya Power also reminded customers that they can access its digital customer service assistant, Nuru, for additional convenience and information.
