Kenya Met predicts rain and cold spells across several counties from September 18 to 22 in 5-day forecast

The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued its latest five-day weather advisory valid from September 18, 2026 to September 22, 2026, confirming that light to moderate rainfall is expected in several counties.
While a few regions will enjoy sunny intervals, others will experience damp afternoons and chilly nights over the five-day period.
Chilly conditions for Nairobi and central highlands
Residents in the capital and surrounding central highlands will need their jackets close at hand.
According to the weather bulletin, “Intermittent cold and cloudy conditions are likely to occur in some parts of Nairobi, Kajiado, Kiambu, Murang’a, Nyeri, Nyandarua, Wajir and Garissa Counties.”
Nairobi is expected to have sunny intervals during the day, accompanied by light showers on the night of Friday, September 18, 2026, and through Monday, September 21, 2026.
Temperatures in the capital will drop to a low of 11°C on Tuesday, September 22, 2026. Nyandarua County will experience the coldest conditions nationwide, with temperatures plunging to a low of 5°C on Monday, September 21, 2026, and 6°C on Tuesday, September 22, 2026.
Other central counties, including Kiambu, Murang’a, Kirinyaga, and Embu, are slated to receive light to moderate rains during afternoons and evenings.
Coastal showers, western rain, and northern heat
Coastal counties such as Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi, and Lamu will see a combination of morning light showers and moderate afternoon rain through the 5-day period, with Mombasa recording temperatures between 21°C and 30°C.
The Lake Victoria Basin and Western Kenya, including Kakamega, Kisumu, Vihiga, and Bungoma, will face afternoon and night showers on selected days.
Regions like Trans Nzoia and Uasin Gishu will also get moderate afternoon showers on Friday, September 18, 2026, and Saturday, September 19, 2026.
Northern Kenya will remain mostly hot and dry. Mandera and Turkana will see daytime maximum temperatures reaching 38°C. However, Wajir and Garissa will experience morning cloudy intervals alongside warm afternoon temperatures.
