Kenya Met forecasts strong winds, light rains in parts of Kenya on Monday
Kenya Meteorological Department has forecast strong winds and light rainfall in parts of the country on Monday, January 5, 2026, with most regions expected to experience sunny intervals.
In its daily weather outlook issued on Sunday, January 4, 2026, Kenya Met said strong southeasterly and northeasterly winds exceeding 25 knots will affect Turkana, Marsabit and several Coastal counties, potentially disrupting transport, fishing and outdoor activities.
According to the department, much of the country will remain largely sunny, especially the Highlands east of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi, Kiambu, Murang’a, Nyeri, Meru and Laikipia.
These areas are expected to have partly cloudy conditions at night, followed by clear and sunny weather throughout Monday.

However, isolated light rains and thunderstorms are expected in a few regions. Kenya Met said parts of Narok and the Mt Elgon area may receive showers, particularly in the afternoon.
The South Eastern Lowlands, covering Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado and Taita Taveta, will mostly stay dry, although light showers could occur in areas near Mt Kilimanjaro.
In the Lake Victoria Basin and the Highlands west of the Rift Valley, sunny intervals are expected to prevail for most of the day, with a few areas recording showers at night or later in the afternoon.
Coastal counties, including Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale, Lamu and Tana River, will experience warm and humid conditions, with strong winds expected to persist throughout the day.

Temperatures will remain high across several towns, with Lodwar, Mandera, Garissa and Wajir expected to record daytime highs of above 35 degrees Celsius.
Nairobi is forecast to reach highs of around 28 degrees, while Kisumu and Mombasa will continue to experience hot and humid weather.
Kenya Met advised members of the public to monitor weather updates and take precautions in areas affected by strong winds and possible thunderstorms.
