Ida Odinga forced to cut short tribute after a rowdy crowd tried to disrupt sister-in-law’s burial

Mama Ida Odinga was forced to briefly interrupt a tribute session after a rowdy crowd tried to disrupt her sister-in-law’s burial ceremony in Bondo, Siaya County.
Ida swiftly took to the dais, asking that the microphone be handed to her on Saturday, December 6, 2025, where she called out a select group of mourners positioned outside the main tent.

On her part, Ida firmly addressed the rowdy crowd, whom she described as having accompanied some sections of politicians present at the burial ceremony.
“Excuse me, can you be quiet a little? The young people outside the tent…the young people who came with various politicians outside the tent… I am talking on behalf of the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga family. Young people who are making noise outside the tent, I beg you to keep quiet,” she said.

While representing the Oginga family, Ida quickly announced the family was not interested in politics; they were instead there to lay their sister to rest.
“Let us send our sister in peace; we are not interested in your politics. Whether you are supporting a politician or not, we are not interested in that,” Ida firmly stated.
She went on adding, “The thing that has brought us here today is to lay our sister to rest, so if you come here and that is not your sister, she is not your relative, so please go away or keep quiet…. I hear you are students from Jaramogi Oginga who do not have the right to come and disorganise our funeral.”
