Halima Ng’ache recalls ordeal during arrest over Ruto flight posts case
Halima Ng’ache, a woman who was being investigated over posts related to President William Ruto’s flights on social media, has spoken out after a Milimani court closed the file in the case and ordered her release.
Ng’ache had been under investigation over claims of publishing information about the President’s air travel through an X (formerly Twitter) account.
Fear of death
Speaking after the ruling, on Monday, July 6, 2026, Ng’ache recounted what she described as a traumatic experience during her arrest and transfer from Mombasa to Nairobi, saying she feared for her life.
“I thought I’d never be alive. Because the journey from Mombasa to Nairobi was so scary. I was surrounded by men with AK-47s,” she said.
She added that during the journey she believed she might not survive the ordeal or see her children again.
“So I thought maybe that’s the end of me… maybe that’s the end I was going to see my kids,” she said.
Mental health impact
Ng’ache further said the experience had a serious emotional and psychological impact on her, stating it worsened her previous struggles with mental health.
“But I’m so traumatised. I was someone who pulled myself out of depression and anxiety, and back to square one. Because now I’m living in fear, so much trauma,” she said.

Despite what she went through, she expressed gratitude to Kenyans for their support and to her legal team for standing by her throughout the case.
“But I’m a strong woman. I’ll pull out even from this one. Thank you, Kenyans for standing by me. I’ve been told that I should shout for my release. And also I’d like to thank my lawyers, my legal team. They really supported me,” she added.
Court ruling
The matter had been in court for directions as investigators sought more time to complete forensic examinations on electronic devices that were recovered from her.
However, the court ultimately declined to grant the prosecution additional time, leading to the closure of the miscellaneous application file and her release.
