Dolly Parton: Kenya to hold farewell party for country music icon

Kenyans will have an opportunity to celebrate the life and music of country music icon Dolly Parton at a farewell party planned for next week.
The event is scheduled for Friday, September 4, at The Legend Karen, where fans will gather to honour the legendary singer, songwriter and actress following her death.
The farewell celebration will feature live music by Sir Elvis, giving Dolly’s Kenyan fans a chance to come together and remember her through some of the songs that made her a global household name.
“Dolly Parton Farewell party, next Friday, September 4, 2026, live music by Sir Elvis. At The Legend, Karen,” the statement reads.
The event comes days after Parton died aged 80 on August 25, 2026, following a brief battle with cancer. Her team confirmed that she died at Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center in Nashville, Tennessee, surrounded by family and loved ones.
Parton’s death has triggered an outpouring of grief from fans around the world, including in Kenya, where her music has remained popular among country music lovers.

Parton’s cause of death
Parton’s team confirmed that the singer died after a brief battle with cancer.
She was hospitalised at Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center in Nashville, where she died surrounded by members of her family and loved ones. Her team described her as having bravely faced the illness before her death.
Her health had become a concern in the months before her death. In September 2025, Parton postponed a planned Las Vegas residency, explaining that she was not well enough to rehearse and prepare for the performances she wanted to give her fans.
She later said she was responding well to medication and treatment and remained hopeful about her recovery.
Parton also missed an 80th birthday celebration concert at the Grand Ole Opry in January 2026, although she sent a message to fans who attended.
