One woman has died, while several others have sustained critical injuries in a road accident that occurred on the evening of Wednesday, 10 December 2025, at Moi’s Bridge town along the busy Kitale-Eldoret Highway.

The accident involved a tipper, a public service vehicle, several other vehicles and a donkey-drawn cart.

According to an eyewitness, Edwin Kimutai, who was the co-driver of the tipper, their lorry developed a mechanical problem and rammed into the matatu, killing one woman and inflicting serious injuries on a number of passengers.

In an interview with K24 Digital, Kimutai said they tried to alert other road users to the danger by hooting continuously, but no one reacted.

“We had just left Matunda with some building blocks, and when we arrived near the Shell petrol station, our tipper’s pressure pipe was damaged and disconnected from the gear.”

“The driver tried to engage the gears but could not control the lorry. We hooted, but other vehicles ignored the signal and only realised the danger when we hit the first vehicle,” Kimutai said.

Some patients were rushed to Moi’s Bridge Health Centre, where they were treated and discharged. Others were referred to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret and Wamalwa Kijana Teaching and Referral Hospital in Kitale, Trans Nzoia County.

Speaking to the press, Agnetta Michael, the nurse on duty at Moi’s Bridge Health Centre, said they received twenty patients with head and leg fractures.

“Three of them had critical fractures on their heads and legs. Fortunately, we had four ambulances that took the seriously injured passengers to Eldoret and Kitale. Sadly, we lost one woman in the late evening accident,” she said.

Confirming the incident at the scene, the Moi’s Bridge Police Station Traffic Commander, George Maelo, cautioned drivers and other road users to observe traffic rules to prevent similar accidents.

“We will deal firmly with all violators of traffic rules because we have a duty to protect lives. We also urge passengers to speak out against rogue and careless drivers,” Maelo warned.

The body of the victim was taken to a mortuary in Eldoret for preservation.
