Family demands justice after 13-year-old girl loses arm and legs in electrocution
A family in Ganze, Kilifi County, is demanding justice after their 13-year-old daughter underwent the amputation of both legs and one arm following an electrocution incident.
The Grade Seven pupil sustained severe burns before she was rushed to hospital for emergency treatment.
In an interview with a local TV station on Sunday, July 5, 2026, her mother, Mariam Ngala, recalled arriving at the hospital after her daughter had begun regaining consciousness, only to learn that the injuries were too severe to save her limbs.
Ngala said the tragedy has left the family devastated. Living with a disability herself, she relied on her daughter for help with household responsibilities and at her small vegetable business after school.

“Nimebakina kilema mimi, ambaye mtoto wangu alikuwa ananisaidia. Lakini sasa baada ya hapo, naona nimechanganyikiwa kabisa,” she said.
She described her daughter as a bright pupil who often spoke about her ambitions.
“Mtoto wangu alikuwa akisema, ‘Mama, nitakuwa mkubwa; nikimaliza kusoma nitapata kazi nzuri.
The family is now calling for those responsible for the electrocution to be held accountable as the teenager begins the difficult journey of recovery and adjusts to life after losing both legs and one arm.
Father and doctor recall ordeal
The girl’s father described the horrific injuries his daughter suffered before she was taken to hospital.
“Ngozi ilikuwa imekauka. Miguu ilikuwa imekauka na mkono nao ulikuwa umekunjana, hauwezi kunyooka. Basi akapelekwa theater,” he said.
Despite emergency treatment, doctors determined that the damage to both legs and one arm was irreversible, leaving amputation as the only option.
Dr Angore said the girl had sustained burns covering about 18 per cent of her body and that the affected limbs were no longer viable.

“Ikabidi afanyiwe amputation.
