Dennis Onyango rules out foul play in Raila’s death
The late Raila Odinga’s death was nothing but natural, and there was no foul play, Raila’s longtime aide Dennis Onyango has said.
In an exclusive interview with one of the local TV stations on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, Onyango stated that those casting doubt on the circumstances surrounding Raila’s passing are merely engaging in political rhetoric.

Responding to recent remarks suggesting the former Prime Minister’s death remains a mystery, Onyango dismissed the claims in strong terms.
“Those allegations are nonsense! People insinuating about Raila’s death are just trying to survive politically. They were not close to Mzee when he died. I am one of those who believe in Raila’s death,” Onyango said.
Onyango’s comments come days after Siaya Governor James Orengo raised questions about Raila’s death during a public address.
“I said in the presence of President Daniel Moi that they killed Raila Odinga, and I want to say without fear of contradiction that the death of Raila Odinga, which is still a mystery to all of us, those who bear the responsibility are out there and are silent about it,” Orengo declared.
“I hope that one day we will determine the circumstances under which Raila Odinga passed away. That must be an objective that we must achieve. We will unlock the mystery,” he added.
Orengo’s remarks reignited long-standing speculation, prompting mixed reactions from leaders and supporters.
Close aide dismisses mystery claims
However, Onyango insisted there was nothing suspicious about Raila’s death and that individuals making fresh allegations were not part of his close circle during his final days.
He maintained that those who were present and involved at the time understand the reality of what happened and see no reason to reopen the matter.
The contrasting statements from two senior figures have sparked renewed public discussion, with supporters divided between calls for clarity and appeals to let the matter rest.
