DCI nabs notorious phone snatcher in Bomet

Detectives from Bomet Central have successfully apprehended a person of interest who had been terrorising local streets by targeting mobile phone users.
In an X statement on Saturday, February 14, 2026 the Directorate of Criminal Investigations( DCI ) confirmed that the individual had been involved in multiple thefts across the region and was finally caught following a tip-off from members of the public.
“Detectives from Bomet Central have finally put the handcuffs on a notorious phone snatcher who had turned the streets into his personal hunting grounds,” DCI noted.
According to the agency, the recovered devices included smartphones from major brands. Investigations revealed that these phones had been stolen from innocent citizens in Kehancha, Migori, and Bomet, causing distress and insecurity within the affected communities.
Authorities noted that the person of interest had been planning to sell the stolen devices to unsuspecting buyers, a tactic commonly used in property crimes.
“The recovery included Vivo, Infinix, Samsung, Tecno, and Nokia smartphones,” Authorities wrote.

The investigative agency shared that currently, the person of interest is in custody, undergoing processing ahead of a formal arraignment in court.
Authorities say the recovered phones have been sent for forensic analysis to ensure they are returned to their rightful owners.
DCI has reassured the public that the fight against mobile phone theft and street crime continues. Through coordinated operations, the department aims to maintain safety and security in towns and cities nationwide. The public is encouraged to report suspicious activities and provide intelligence to help prevent similar crimes.
