CS Ogamba: Over 211,000 learners approved in Grade 10 placement review

The Ministry of Education has announced that the results of the Grade 10 Senior School placement review are now available on the placement portal.

In a statement, Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba said the ministry received a total of 355,457 applications for review, with each learner allowed to submit up to four requests.

“Following the initial placement, we received a total of 355,457 applications for review, with each learner allowed to lodge up to four applications. Upon consideration, applications by 211,636 learners have been approved,” he said.

Ogamba explained that the remaining applications were declined mainly because the preferred subject combinations were not available or because the selected schools did not have enough space.

“There were, for example, up to 20,000 applications for schools like Alliance High School, Kenya High School and Mangu High School, against an average capacity of 500 slots,” he noted.

He added that so far, 88 per cent of learners have been placed in line with their original or revised selections. Learners who still wish to request another review will have an opportunity to apply from January 6 to 9, 2026.

The initial placement exercise ran from December 14 to 19, 2025. Learners who were not satisfied with their placements were given a chance to apply for a review from December 23. Processing of the review applications concluded on Monday, December 29, and the outcomes were released on Tuesday, December 30.

The placement also revealed the distribution of learners across pathways. Currently, 51 per cent of learners have been placed in the STEM pathway, 38 per cent in the Social Sciences pathway, and 11 per cent in the Arts & Sports Science pathway.

Joining instructions for learners are now available for download on the placement portal, effective December 30, 2025.
